I’m Christina Segovia, and I’m running for school board because this is deeply personal to me. As a local parent, a mom, and a special education teacher, I know that district decisions affect real lives, not just numbers on a page. Having become a parent at a younger age than most, while pursuing my own education, I care deeply about educational equity. I know our students don’t all start with the same resources, but every child deserves a fair opportunity to succeed. As both a special education teacher and a parent of a child receiving these services, I will advocate for the support our students, teachers, paraprofessionals, and families truly need. I don’t have all the answers, but I am ready to listen, ask the hard questions, and bring transparency and accountability to our district. Together, we can make sure our parents, teachers, and students finally have a voice.
I am committed to strengthening our special education programs because every student in our community deserves the individualized services and support they need to thrive. We cannot do this without supporting the entire team around them. I will work to ensure our teachers, paraprofessionals, and families have the resources and open lines of communication necessary to succeed. This means making sure every student has direct access to essential service providers, whether that is on-site or virtually when necessary. It also means equipping our dedicated staff with the proper, safe equipment they need to support our students with special needs every single day. Together, we can build a stronger, more supportive environment for all of our children.
I believe with all my heart that every single student in our community deserves a fair opportunity to succeed. It shouldn't matter what their background is, what language they speak at home, their family's income, or whether they live with a disability. Every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances. If you elect me, I will make it my mission to identify the real barriers that are holding our students back. I will work tirelessly to secure the resources and opportunities that meet the unique and diverse needs of our families. Together, we can ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive right here in our community.
I believe our families deserve to understand exactly how and why important decisions are being made in our community. That is why I am focusing on transparency and parent involvement. If you elect me, I will work every single day to strengthen our communication and create genuine, meaningful opportunities for parent and community input. It is incredibly important to me that you feel heard and respected long before any major decisions are finalized. This is about making sure your voice truly matters. I will fight to build an open, collaborative process where we listen to one another and work together. We must ensure that major choices are not made behind closed doors, and that everyone is properly informed and aware of when decisions are happening. I don't want anyone in our community to ever feel left in the dark.
Our students succeed when the people serving them are supported. That is why I want to listen directly to our teachers, classified staff, paraprofessionals, and all school employees about what they need to improve our working and learning environments. Our educators are not just filling seats in a classroom; they are raising future generations of citizens. They deserve to be truly appreciated, but so often, they are left struggling to advocate for themselves. I want to build a system where our educators can go to their administration for guidance and support, without feeling like they are walking on eggshells. By listening to their voices and valuing their dedication, we can build a better environment where both our staff and our students can thrive.
Academic data matters, but we have to look at what is actually happening behind those numbers. I want us to focus on the real barriers our students face every day—things like attendance, learning gaps, family circumstances, and access to resources. We cannot simply focus on test scores; we need to address the root causes of these challenges and support our students with whatever they need to get through their schooling. My goal is to build a strong bridge between our schools and our community. By connecting our families to the resources available both inside and outside the classroom, we can support our kids together. Let's work to improve student achievement, one step at a time.
Our schools simply cannot do everything alone, and they shouldn't have to. That is why I am focused on building stronger partnerships between our school district, our families, and our local organizations. By bringing us all together, we can make it much easier for families to access vital support right when they need it most. Whether it is academic help, mental health services, financial assistance, or childcare, we must ensure these resources are easily accessible. When we connect our schools with our community, we build a stronger, more supportive foundation for every family.
